JESS + SAM ON 35MM FILM

A gorgeous little sunlit family session

Shot on Portra 400 35mm film

There’s something about photographing families on film that just feels different. This session was slow, relaxed, and full of the kind of in-between moments you can’t plan for; bare feet on dusty ground, kids swinging from familiar hands, soft laughter drifting through the trees as the light dipped low. Film has a way of holding onto those moments exactly as they are, without forcing them into perfection.

Rather than stiff posing, this session was about movement and connection. Walking, spinning, kissing, carrying tired kids on shoulders, the real rhythm of family life. Shot on 35mm film, every frame carries a softness and depth that digital can’t quite replicate. The colours are gentle, the grain adds texture, and the images feel timeless in a way that won’t date as trends change.

If you’re drawn to photographs that feel lived-in, honest, and a little nostalgic, film might be for you. Film sessions are intentionally unhurried and focused on presence rather than performance which is perfect for families who want their memories documented as they truly are. If that sounds like your kind of session, I’d love to create something similar for you.
